My Parent's Guest Room

The back guest room at my parent's house is the most charming space. Their house is very old, so the back bedroom was originally created as the maid's quarters. There's a full bath and a separate staircase, so it's pretty quiet back there. Every time I've slept in there, I have had an amazing night of sleep--I think some bedrooms are just cozy like that!

THE MURAL. I've had eyes for this mural for YEARS. It's taken me so long to find a good home for it, but I think it works so perfectly in this space. We just got the Judarn mirror for our house and I love that so much too. The print and colors are just so perfect--I can't get enough of it!

Installing it was really not that bad once I realized what it actually needed. It says it's prepasted and only needs water to activate the glue, but mine would not adhere to the wall enough without wallpaper paste, so I used that everywhere too. I saw someone else on instagram install it with wallpaper paste so that made me feel better. Once I had the paste on the print lined up really well.

I based everything else in the room off the mural. For the headboard, I ordered a custom color from Spoonflower in their celosia velvet to coordinate with the mustard color in the mural. After taking it off, it was really simple to cover--just a rectangle!

The olive-striped sheets and velvet quilt were from Target, of course. The duvet cover was mine from high school, and that was from Urban Outfitters. The same goes for the dresser and nightstand. I try to reuse things wherever I can as long as they are in decent shape!

The chair was an Amazon find! I was surprised how well the mustard matched with the headboard--I was fully prepared for it to be a fail but it ended up working great. The quality of the chair is pretty decent for being $200 but if it doesn't last forever then it's not a big deal.

All the other accessories were from Target! I usually start at Target since it's the closet to me and has great options, then move to HomeGoods or online from there.

I'm so happy with how this space turned out, and can't wait for more guests to stay in here!
